Ways that you can help
We rely on PRS members to spread the word about what we do and to make donations.
There are a number of ways that you can help.
- Leave a legacy
- Give us copyright and royalties
- Make a donation
With your support we are able to turn around the lives of current and former PRS members.
Legacies
You can either leave a residuary legacy or a pecuniary legacy. A residuary legacy is what is left of your estate after tax, expenses and other legacies have been paid. You can leave a percentage of your residuary legacy to the PRS for Music Members Benevolent Fund. A pecuniary legacy is a fixed sum of money that may decrease in value over time.
You can make a new Will or change your existing Will at any point.
We recommend that you ask a solicitor for advice and to help you do this and we have produced Will drafting notes.
Copyright and royalties
We rely heavily on those members who bequeath us their PRS payments, royalties and copyrights. If you make these a Gift of Will to the PRS for Music Members Benevolent Fund then they will be exempt from Inheritance Tax. We recommend that you ask a solicitor for advice and to help you do this and we have produced Will drafting notes. Alternatively you can donate a percentage of your PRS royalties at each PRS distribution. If you’d like to do this please download the PRS royalties form and your donations will start from the next PRS distribution.
Donations
You can make a donation at any point. We use all donations to help songwriters, composers and music publishers who have fallen on hard times. Use our secure online donation or write a cheque to ‘PRS for Music Members Benevolent Fund’ and send it to PRS for Music Members Benevolent Fund, 29/33 Berners Street, London W1T 3AB.
If you are a tax payer please tick the Gift Aid box when making an online donation or download the Gift Aid form and send it to us with your cheque. This means that for every £1 you donate to us we can get an extra 28p back from the Inland Revenue.
Help when it is needed
“Mr D, aged 57, has been a musician all his working life until forced to give up. The onset of arthritis and constant pain in his neck and shoulders means that he can’t work any more. His social worker told us about him. He now receives regular financial support and we have bought some new household items for his bed sit. This has made an enormous difference to his quality of life.”
